Behaviour Consultation & Training Session

What to Expect During Your First 90-Minute Session

Our first session is designed to help us understand both the dog and the owner before recommending the most effective training plan. The session combines behavioural assessment, practical training, and goal planning so that owners leave with clear strategies to begin improving their dog’s behaviour immediately.

Session Overview (90 Minutes)

Part 1 - Owner Consultation & Behaviour History

We begin by understanding the dog’s background and the specific challenges you are facing.

Topics we typically discuss:

• The dog’s daily routine and lifestyle
• Previous training history
• Behaviour concerns or problem situations
• Triggers that cause the behaviour
• How the owner currently manages the behaviour
• Household structure and consistency between family members

This helps us identify patterns that may be influencing the dog’s behaviour.

Part 2 -  Behavioural Assessment

Next, we observe the dog’s natural responses in different situations.

During this assessment we look at:

Temperament & Emotional State

• Confidence levels
• Anxiety or fear responses
• Sensitivity to environment or noise

Impulse Control

• Ability to remain calm around stimulation
• Response to food, toys, or movement

Social Behaviour

• Reaction to strangers
• Interaction with other dogs (if applicable)

Focus & Responsiveness

• Ability to engage with the owner
• Response to cues or commands

This allows us to identify the underlying cause of the behaviour, not just the visible symptoms.

Part 3 - Practical Training & Handling Techniques (45 minutes)

Once we understand the behaviour patterns, we begin practical training during the session.

Owners will learn:

Clear Communication

• How to give signals the dog can understand
• Timing of cues and rewards

Management Techniques

• Immediate strategies to prevent unwanted behaviour
• How to control situations that typically trigger the issue

Foundational Training Skills

Depending on the situation, this may include:

• Leash handling techniques
• Impulse control exercises
• Focus and engagement work
• Calm behaviour reinforcement

Our goal during this stage is to demonstrate techniques and guide the owner through applying them correctly.

Part 4 - Training Strategy & Goal Planning

At the end of the session, we review what we observed and outline a clear path forward.

This includes:

• Identifying the root cause of the behaviour
• Explaining the most effective training approach
• Setting realistic training goals
• Recommending a structured training plan moving forward

If additional training sessions are recommended, we will also explain how these sessions will build on the work started during the consultation.

What Owners Gain

After the consultation, owners usually leave with:

• A clear understanding of why the behaviour occurs
• Immediate strategies to manage the issue
• Practical training techniques to start applying at home
• A structured plan for improving the dog’s behaviour

Our Training Philosophy

At Woof Academy, we believe that long-term behavioural change comes from clear communication, consistent reinforcement, and structured guidance.

Our goal is not simply to teach commands, but to help dogs and owners develop a system that allows them to understand each other more clearly.

Most behavioural issues are not caused by stubborn dogs, but by confusion in communication.

Our job is to help both dog and owner find clarity.

Home Foundations Program

Building Calm Behaviour and Clear Communication at Home

The Home Foundations Program is designed for puppies and dogs who are beginning their training journey, especially those who are not yet ready to join group environments.

During this program, we focus on helping dogs develop calm behaviour, clear communication with their owners, and good household habits.

Rather than simply teaching commands, we guide both the dog and owner in building the structure needed for long-term behaviour success.

Program Structure (60 Minutes)

Duration

4 private sessions

Session Length (60mins)

60 minutes per session

This structure allows time for:

  • Practical training

  • Troubleshooting

  • Owner guidance

  • Reinforcement between sessions

Location

What We Work On

Next, we observe the dog’s natural responses in different situations.

- Potty Training

Helping puppies develop consistent toileting habits through proper scheduling and reinforcement.

- Puppy Biting & Nipping

Teaching puppies how to regulate their bite and interact appropriately with people.

- Chewing & Destructive Behaviour

Redirecting natural chewing behaviours toward appropriate outlets.

- Calm Behaviour Indoors

Teaching dogs how to settle and relax inside the home.

- Communication & Focus

Helping dogs understand cues and signals clearly from their owners.

- Basic Household Obedience

Developing foundational behaviours such as sit, down, place, and engagement.

Why Home Foundations Is Important

Many behavioural problems develop early because dogs do not clearly understand what is expected of them within the home environment.

By establishing structure and communication early, dogs are better prepared to handle more complex environments and social interactions later.

Package Price and Structure

4 sessions - $780

What Owners Gain

Owners will leave the program with:

• Practical strategies for managing common puppy behaviours
• A clear communication system with their dog
• Greater confidence in handling their dog
• A structured routine that supports long-term behaviour success

The Next Step in Your Dog’s Training Journey

Once dogs have developed strong household foundations, they are ready to apply those skills in more stimulating environments.

Many graduates of the Home Foundations Program progress to our Structured Day Program, where dogs practise their training through controlled socialisation, structured routines, and confidence-building activities.

Urban Reliability Program

Building Calm Behaviour and Clear Communication Outdoors

The Urban Reliability Program is designed to help dogs develop calm and reliable behaviour during everyday walks and outdoor activities. While many dogs respond well to training at home, maintaining focus and engagement outdoors can be more challenging due to environmental distractions.

This program focuses on strengthening communication between the dog and owner while helping dogs learn how to remain calm, responsive, and engaged during walks and in outdoor environments.

Program Structure (60 Minutes)

Duration

5 private sessions

Session Length (60mins)

60 minutes per session

Location
Training sessions typically begin in quieter neighbourhood environments before progressing to larger public spaces where dogs can practise their walking skills with greater environmental stimulation.

Examples may include locations such as Bishan Park, East Coast Park, or other suitable outdoor environments.

Session Flow

  1. Establishing leash communication and engagement during walks

  2. Teaching puppies how to regulate their bite and interact appropriately with people.

  3. Redirecting natural chewing behaviours toward appropriate outlets.

  4. Teaching dogs how to settle and relax inside the home.

  5. Helping dogs understand cues and signals clearly from their owners.

Each session gradually introduces more environmental stimulation while reinforcing the dog’s ability to remain engaged with the owner.

What We Work On

  • Loose leash walking and leash communication

  • Engagement and focus during walks

  • Managing excitement around environmental distractions

  • Reinforcing calm behaviour around people and dogs

  • Structured walking routines and handler guidance

Why the Urban Reliability Program Is Important

While many dogs learn obedience skills indoors, applying those behaviours outdoors can be more difficult due to the presence of distractions and unfamiliar environments. This program helps dogs develop the focus and confidence needed to remain responsive during everyday walks.

Package Price and Structure

5 sessions - $1080

What Owners Gain

Owners will develop:

  • Greater control and confidence during walks

  • Clear communication with their dog outdoors

  • A calmer walking experience with fewer pulling behaviours

  • Stronger engagement between dog and owner

The Next Step in Your Dog’s Training Journey

Once dogs have developed reliable walking skills and improved focus outdoors, many continue their training through the Advanced Urban Control Program, where these behaviours are strengthened in busier public environments.

Advanced Urban Control Program

Full Control In High Distraction Area

The Advanced Urban Control Program is designed to help dogs develop reliable obedience and strong impulse control in busy public environments. While many dogs can perform well in quieter settings, maintaining calm behaviour and focus in highly stimulating environments can be more challenging.

This program focuses on strengthening the dog’s ability to remain engaged with the owner, respond consistently to cues, and regulate excitement despite everyday urban distractions.

Duration

5 private sessions

Session Length (60mins)

60 minutes per session

Location
Training sessions typically take place in busier outdoor environments where dogs can safely practise maintaining focus despite real-world distractions.

Examples may include locations such as Bishan Park, East Coast Park, and other public spaces where environmental stimulation is naturally present.

Session Flow

  1. Strengthening engagement and impulse control in outdoor environments

  2. Reinforcing obedience cues around moderate distractions

  3. Developing duration and calm behaviour in stimulating environments

  4. Practising obedience and control in busier public spaces

  5. Strengthening reliability and applying skills in real-world situations

Each session gradually increases environmental difficulty while reinforcing the dog’s ability to remain calm and responsive.

What We Work On

Training within this program may include:

  • Reinforcing obedience cues in highly distracting environments

  • Strengthening engagement between dog and owner

  • Developing impulse control around people and dogs

  • Practising calm behaviour in busy public spaces

  • Improving reliability and focus despite environmental stimuli

Why the Advanced Urban Control Program Is Important

Many dogs can perform obedience behaviours in familiar environments but struggle to maintain focus when distractions increase. This program helps dogs develop the emotional regulation and behavioural reliability needed to remain calm and responsive in real-world situations.

Package Price and Structure

5 sessions - $1080

What Owners Gain

Owners will develop:

  • Greater confidence handling their dog in public environments

  • Reliable obedience despite distractions

  • Stronger communication and engagement with their dog

  • A calmer and more enjoyable experience during outings

The Next Step in Your Dog’s Training Journey

For dogs experiencing more complex behavioural challenges such as reactivity, anxiety, or difficulty regulating excitement in stimulating environments, additional structured support may be recommended through Woof Academy’s Behaviour Transformation Program.

Behavioral Modification Program

Modifying Unwanted Behaviors

A structured program designed to address behavioural challenges such as barking, leash pulling, reactivity, and anxiety. Training focuses first on improving the owner’s handling skills, followed by building better behaviour within the home, and finally guiding the dog to respond more calmly in real-world situations. This approach creates consistent and lasting behaviour change for both dog and owner.

Session Flow:

  1. Address Existing Behaviour
We begin by observing and working on the current issue to understand how the behaviour is being displayed.

  2. Introduce Short-Term Management
Practical techniques are introduced to help owners manage the behaviour immediately and regain control

  3. Identify Root Cause
We assess underlying factors such as environment, communication, and handling that contribute to the behaviour.

  4. Develop Long-Term Solutions
A structured plan is introduced to create sustainable behaviour

  5. Rebuild Foundations (Owner & Home First)
Training focuses on improving the owner’s handling skills and establishing clear structure within the household.

  6. Guide the Dog Toward Desired Behaviour
With clear communication and structure in place, we help the dog develop calmer and more appropriate responses.

Each session gradually increases environmental difficulty while reinforcing the dog’s ability to remain calm and responsive.

What We Work On

Training within this program may include:

  • Addressing behaviours such as barking, leash pulling, reactivity, and anxiety

  • Identifying triggers and understanding the root cause of behaviour

  • Improving owner handling skills and communication

  • Establishing clear structure and boundaries within the home

  • Developing impulse control and calmer responses in the dog

  • Guiding behaviour in both indoor and outdoor environments

Why the Behavioral Modification Program Is Important

Behavioural issues often develop from unclear communication, inconsistent handling, or a lack of structure. Without addressing these foundations, problems may continue or return over time. This program focuses on creating clarity and consistency for both dog and owner, allowing behaviour change to be more stable and long-lasting.

Package Price and Structure

5 sessions - $1080

What Owners Gain

Owners will develop:

• A deeper understanding of their dog’s behaviour and triggers
• Clear communication that helps their dog respond more consistently
• Practical strategies to manage and prevent unwanted behaviours
